Kari grew up in Connecticut and lived for 11 years in New York State before moving to the Lehigh Valley and joining NorthStar Adventure. She received her bachelor’s degree from SUNY Cobleskill in Cobleskill, N.Y. and has more than a dozen years of experience teaching ropes courses and working with a wide variety of groups in different capacities.
Kari developed our environmental programs and facilitates our program groups and dog-mushing program. She resides in Slatington with her Siberian Huskies and enjoys spending time with her dogs sledding, hiking, backpacking and weight pulling. She is also one of our Merit Badge Counselors with the Boy Scouts and has Pennsylvania and Federal Clearances to work with youth.
Jane Wells Schooley is committed to and enthusiastic about helping transform business leaders and their teams through the experiential model of team development and professional coaching. Jane has a Master’s degree from The Pennsylvania State University in Speech Communication with an emphasis in group and organizational communication.
She holds an international certification in business coaching from The International Coach Academy in Australia. She is a certified Olweus anti-bullying trainer who helps keep educational institutions safe and also trains companies in dealing with bullies at work. Jane is a Master Behavioral Analyst, Jane uses behavioral assessment tools to help her clients and their teams function at the highest level possible maximizing productivity and retention. Wells Schooley is a professional speaker and seminar leader.
Wells Schooley has been on the full-time faculty of Penn State, served as the nationally elected Vice President of a large non-profit based in Washington, D.C., is an owner and has been CEO of a 175 agent market center of Keller Williams Real Estate. During her more than 30 years as an entrepreneur, the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce has recognized her with the prestigious international Athena Leadership Award for excellence in business and for helping other women reach their leadership potential. She brings her talents in leadership and team development to the “for- profit” and “not-for-profit” worlds as well as serving NorthStar as its professional Coach, Seminar Leader and Facilitator.
Stuart W. Schooley is the founder of Dutch Springs, North Star Team Development and NorthStar Adventure at Dutch Springs. A certified public accountant and independent small business owner with decades of experience, he became one of the founding partners and later sole owner of Dutch Springs. As one of the most popular SCUBA sites on the East Coast, Dutch Springs attracts more than 55,000 visitors each year to its 50-acre freshwater lake. Dutch Springs offers a variety of water-based and dry-land attractions, such as its famous Aqua Park, Sky Challenge, Camping and Northstar Team Development and NorthStar Adventure.
A 1970 graduate of Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, he worked with Ernst & Ernst and Penn-Dixie Industries Inc. Cement Division before starting his own accounting firm, Comprehensive Business Services. He sold that business in 1983 and joined Corby Industries Inc. as controller and in 1989 joined Pocono Peterbuilt as controller, a position he held until 1992. He became a partner and manager of Recreational Concepts Development Corporation (Dutch Springs) in 1980 and in 1986 became the sole owner of Dutch Springs.
Schooley is a certified Divemaster, Certified Pool Operator and an Aquatics Facility Operator and Certified Park Operator. In addition, he has completed a two-year course in campground management sponsored by The National Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds and the Campground Planning, Design, Rehabilitation and Programming course sponsored by the University of Tennessee. He is a past member of The National Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds, the Pennsylvania Campground Owners Association, the Pennsylvania Recreation Vehicle and Camping Association, the World Water Park Association, the National Recreation and Park Association, the Pennsylvania Recreation and Park Society, and the Pennsylvania Travel and Leisure Council, where he served on its Government Affairs Committee. He is also a past member of the Northampton Community College Foundation Board and the Two Rivers Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.
He is currently a member of the Discover Lehigh Valley Board of Directors (formerly the Lehigh Valley Convention and Visitors Bureau) and a past member of the Boards of Directors of the Lehigh County Industrial Development Corporation and the Lehigh Economic Advancement Project (LEAP).
He co-founded NorthStar Adventure in 2006 with Jane Wells Schooley. NorthStar Adventure incorporated the Sky Challenge, which encompasses the Rock Wall and High-Ropes courses. The Low-Ropes course was developed to offer experience-based, facilitated team development exercises to businesses, non-profits, church, school, sports and youth groups. In 2011 Stuart and Jane Wells Schooley created North Star Team Development to work primarily with corporate clients and began to focus NorthStar Adventure as a resource for its existing non-business clients.
